HOLY ANGELS CATHOLIC SCHOOL​

General Uniform Requirements

• Uniforms must be clean, neat, and in good repair. Shirts must remain tucked in throughout the school day, and collars must be visible. Clothing that is frayed, torn, excessively worn, or otherwise not in compliance with the uniform standards is not permitted.

• Shoes must be plain black, closed-toe, closed-heel, and securely fastened to the foot. 

Students in grades K-8 must wear plain black leather or leather-like dress shoes or athletic shoes with non-marking black soles. All shoes must be closed-toe, closed-heel, securely fastened to the foot, and have heels no greater than one inch. Laces, if present, must be black; Velcro closures are permitted.High-top athletic shoes, boots, sandals, clogs, Crocs, moccasins, and other open-toed or open-heeled footwear are not permitted.

Athletic shoes must be entirely black, including the upper, sole, and laces or straps. Canvas, suede, mesh, or multi-colored athletic shoes are not permitted.

Shoes may not contain decorative stripes, patterns, metallic finishes, contrasting colors, ornamental buckles, excessive logos, "bling," or other decorative embellishments. Soles must be black, including on Sperry-style shoes. White or contrasting soles are not permitted.

Students requiring alternative footwear for medical reasons must have written documentation from a licensed medical professional on file with the school office. All approved exceptions must be black whenever possible.

Families who are uncertain whether a shoe meets uniform requirements are encouraged to contact the school office and submit a photo for approval before purchasing or wearing the shoes.

• No hats or caps may be worn once inside the school building. 

• A watch may be worn. Fit Bits may be worn if used as a watch. No Apple watches are allowed.

• Students may wear one modest religious necklace, chain, or scapular as an expression of faith. Bracelets and other wrist jewelry are not permitted.No Holy Angels sports sweatshirts and/or hoodies are to be worn in class.

• Writing, drawing, or markings on the skin are not permitted. Students may not display temporary or permanent tattoos while at school or participating in school-sponsored activities.

• Optional Holy Angels logo dark green, gray, or white sweatshirts, (crew or hoodie) sized appropriately, and not tied around the waist in grades K-8 can be worn.

• Only approved Holy Angels uniform sweatshirts may be worn during the school day. Holy Angels athletic sweatshirts and hoodies may not be worn in class. Eighth-grade students may wear the optional graduating class sweatshirt purchased through the approved uniform vendor.

• Optional navy uniform shorts may be worn until September 30 and from May 1 until the end of the school year. Must be knee length. Belts are required with shorts and must be solid black or dark brown.

• Scout uniforms may be worn on days that Scout meetings are held.

• Outer garments such as coats, jackets, or hoodies are not worn in the classroom. The school sweatshirt can be worn for warmth.

• All jumpers, skirts, shorts, pants, and sweaters should be purchased from the uniform company. All other items may be purchased locally following the above stipulations.

 

PE Uniforms

• All students wear solid black shorts sold online. Boys and girls in grades K-4 wear their school shirts. Boys and girls in grades 5-8 wear gray P.E. T-shirts also sold online. Socks must be worn. No slip-on gym shoes are permitted. In lieu of laces, Velcro straps are permitted.

 

Hair, Grooming, and Personal Appearance

Hair must be neat, clean, well-groomed, and not obstruct a student's vision or create a disruption to the educational environment.The school will not prohibit hairstyles historically associated with race, ethnicity, or hair texture, including, but not limited to, protective hairstyles such as braids, locks, and twists. Any student’s appearance that disrupts the educational process or compromises health and safety standards must modify their appearance. (Diocesan Policy 2435) 

Students who are not in compliance with the hair policy will be given up to seven calendar days to correct the violation. Students who fail to correct a hair policy violation within the designated timeframe or who demonstrate a willful disregard for the policy may be subject to disciplinary action, including suspension at the discretion of the administration.

 

Girls' Uniform Requirements

• Simple hair accessories and/or gels are acceptable for girls to keep hair out of the eyes and face. Shaved designs are not permitted and must not entail significant contrasts of longer and shorter hair. Hair coloring of any type will not be permitted.  If in violation, students will have seven days to comply with this policy. Administration reserves the right to suspend students for blatant disregard of the hair policy.

• Plaid jumpers (below or at the knee) in grades K-4 with plain (no decorations) white or forest green, cotton, round-collared blouse, button down oxford shirt, or polo shirt with long or short sleeves.

• Plaid skirts (below or at the knee) in grades 5-8 with plain (no decorations) white or forest green, cotton, round-collared blouse, button down oxford shirt, or polo shirt with long or short sleeves. No dark colored bras that show through the white blouse are allowed. Skirt may not be rolled up at the waist.

• Optional dark navy uniform pants may be worn. Belts are required with pants and must be solid black or dark brown.

• Black or navy blue leggings may be worn under jumpers/skirts after September 30 until May 1.

• White or navy blue ankle socks (must have a cuff that folds over the ankle), knee socks, or white, black, or navy tights in grades K-8. No frills, decorations, or logos. Peds or “no show” socks are not allowed.

• Students may wear one pair of simple stud or hoop earrings on the lower earlobes only. Hoop earrings may be no larger than a nickel in diameter. No dangling earrings or additional piercings are permitted.

• No make-up may be worn to school, in school, or from school. Light make up is allowed for girls in grades 7-8 for junior high dances.

• Professional manicured nails and nail polish are not permitted. 

• May wear solid dark colored pants under jumper or skirt for recess and going to and from school.

• Gym shorts may be worn under jumpers or skirts but must not hang below the hemline.

 

Boys' Uniform Requirements

• Boys' hair must be neat, clean, and well-groomed. Hair should not obstruct the student's vision or create a distraction to the educational environment. Extreme hairstyles, shaved designs, significant contrasts in hair length, or unnatural hair colors are not permitted. Hair products may be used provided they do not create a distraction. 

• Dark navy blue twill pants in grades K-8 with plain, (no logos) white or forest green, polo, broadcloth, or oxford-collared shirt with long or short sleeves. A plain, (free from writing) white undershirt may be worn under the school shirt. Sleeves of the undershirt are to be no longer than the length of the uniform sleeve. Pants may not be cargo pants, flared bottomed, or have decorative stitching on them.

• Solid white or solid dark over the ankle socks with no logos.

• Belts should be solid black or dark brown. Belt loops may only be cut off in kindergarten.

• Students must be clean-shaven, if necessary, and may not wear sideburns.

• No earrings may be worn.

 

Dress Code Violations

Students are expected to comply with the Holy Angels School dress code each day. The purpose of the dress code is to promote a neat, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment.

When a student is found to be in violation of the dress code, the following procedures may be implemented:

1. The student may be required to correct the violation immediately, if possible.

2. Parents may be contacted and asked to bring appropriate clothing or uniform items to school.

3. Repeated dress code violations may result in disciplinary consequences, including detention or other appropriate measures.

4. Students may be excluded from classes, activities, field trips, or school events until the violation is corrected if the infraction is deemed significant.

5. Any junior high student who accumulates three (3) dress code violations within a quarter may be assigned an before-school detention.

Administration reserves the right to determine whether a student's attire, grooming, accessories, or appearance complies with the spirit and intent of the dress code. Decisions regarding dress code compliance are final.
