Robotics Club

In the Holy Angels School Robotics Club, students in grades 6-8 will participate in FIRST Lego League (FLL), an engineering and robotics program. The club begins meeting in August and continues until the December competition where they are judged in four categories: (1) robot game: teams build a robot using EV3 Mindstorm Lego intelligent brick that can then be programmed to perform tasks on a playing field; (2) technical judging: looking at the build, programming, attachments and sensors used to perform on the robot playing field; (3) teamwork: how the team works together and interacts when given a task by the judges; and (4) research project: teams perform research in order to identify a real world problem and develop an innovative solution to solve that problem.  To learn more about the international competition, check out www.usfirst.org.

We are blessed to have the support of Caterpillar, Inc., to field two teams. Each year CAT pays for the new competition table set up and t-shirts. The generosity of Caterpillar is essential to this program continuing and we are so thrilled to have their support. Please note, student will pay nominal fees to cover registering for competition. Each team will consist of two coaches and up to ten students.

As our program will be heading into its 8th season, we are in need of two assistant coaches. Although they can be, these assistant coaches do not have to be engineers or technology junkies … we just need adults who are willing to work with these kids to guide them and keep them on task, coordinate research meetings, learn with them about robot programming and building, and have fun watching the “teamwork” exercises.  Coaches do not have to have a child competing on a robotics team.

If you have any interest in coaching, Mrs. Jeanine Williams, jwilliams@holyangelsschool.net or  630-897-3613.
